This week Michal Bartosik took the training time honours with 13hrs 16mins. This included a mammoth 9hrs 24mins of time in the saddle. Due to injury Michal has switched his focus to the bike this week to give his legs chance to recover. Michal has Ironman Zurich next month so all these bike hours will no doubt pay off when he hits the Zurich bike course on July 24th. **Jon Davis' riding time has gone to a stewards enquiry due to a very lengthy 10hr bike ride where he either fell asleep on the bike or his heart got stuck on pause for 9hrs! I have had communications with Jon and can confirm he is still alive ;)
Paul Nash took the run title with over 4hrs of running time. What is even more impressive is that the bulk of this run time was done at Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire where Paul was racing his second middle distance race in three weeks! Pauls performances continue to improve as he works towards the top-end of his age-group and GB qualification.
Sarah-Jane continues to become even more fishlike with an incredible 8hrs 25mins in the water. Sarah Jane continued her Channel swim training with qualifying swims in the sea at Dover. On Saturday she had to complete a 2hr swim followed by a further 90min swim in the cold 12.2 degree sea brrrrrrrrrr! Not only that, she had to repeat the same thing the day after!!
Sarah Jane is raising money for the charity Aspire. Aspire support people with spinal cord injuries and money raised goes towards helping those with such injuries to live full and independent lives. If you would like to support Sarah Jane (and Aspire) then click here to donate via her JustGiving page.
The Do3 Strava group continues to grow and is now up to 23 members! The latest addition is Time Trialing specialist (and soon to be uber-swimmer) Shin Braich. Welcome to the group Shin!
A noticeable omission from the Strava group is Do3 swim squad member Matt Taylor (come on Matt, get signed up!). Matt also tamed the Ironman Staffordshire 70.3 course at the weekend in what was his first middle distance race. Matt completed the course in an impressive 5:40:38 which included a great 32:22 swim which goes to show all that work with the swim squad is paying off! Really great race Matt – well done!
Other notable things that people have been doing include:
John Wrottesley headed up to the lake district to take part in the Great North Swim. John is one our our lane 1 speed merchants and he showed his speed completing the swim in an impressive 25:48, placing him 64th out of 3156.
Paul Squire took part in the local Two Castes 10k. This run takes you from Warwick Castle across to Kenilworth Castle. Paul ran a time of 49:54 to finish 1945 out of 3958.
Great work by everyone this week. No spot prizes this week unfortunately as I am still on 'operation scrounge' from our supporting brands and retailers. If you know of any companies who would be likely to donate prizes in return for coverage amongst the squad and further afield to 4k+ on social media let me know!
