Do3 Up the Race and Pace - Weekend round up 30th June – 1st July 2018

Do3, Warwickshire’s leading triathlon squad coached by Dave Knight, upped their endurance at the weekend by taking part in various middle and full distance triathlon competitions across the UK and Europe.

Professional triathlete and Stratford on Avon resident Eloise du Luart was in Lahti, Finland for Ironman 70.3 Finland which comprised a 1.9 km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run. She completed the swim in 30:41, the cycle in 2:31:34 and the run in 1:35:01. Fellow Do3 squad members, John Taplin from Warwick and Yusuf Ibrahim-Zai from Dorridge, were in Austria for the 2018 Ironman Austria-Kärnten. The full distance triathlon was raced over a 3.86km lake swim, 180.25km bike through the mountains and finished with a 42.20km run. Ibrahim-Zai stormed to the finish with a time of 10:23:14.

In the UK, Peter Wharton and Ben Phyall from Wellesbourne represented Do3 in Scotland at the 2018 Ironman 70.3 Edinburgh. This covered a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run against the historic backdrop of the city of Edinburgh. Phyall  finished in 5:38:18, with Wharton completing the 70.3km distance in 5:52:39.

Also competing at middle distance were Stoneleigh’s Steven Hession and Coventry’s Guy Bicknell who took part in the Outlaw Half Holkham Triathlon in Norfolk. The event took place in searing temperatures and racers had to face strong cross winds during the cycle. Bicknell finished in the top 9% overall; completing the race in 5:05:37 and Hession in 5:25:41.

Paul Nash from Stratford on Avon was in winning form again at St Neots Triathlon. He raced the standard distance course made up of a 1.5km swim, 45km bike and 10km run, in 3:11:07 and took 2nd place in his age group. At Isoman Aquabike, Tasha Redman, finished as 1st woman.

Evesham resident, Tasha Redman said; ‘I’m thrilled with the advances I’ve made! My swim is without doubt down to Dave and the regular Do3 squad sessions I’ve attended. Early mornings, speed sets and some arduous endurance swims have ultimately paid off and I can’t thank Dave enough as he ultimately saved me 7 whole minutes off last year’s swim time!’

Dave Knight, head coach for Do3 adds; ‘Across the board the squad is bringing in fantastic results; each person’s commitment is being rewarded through measurable gains whether it’s on the podium, a personal best or completing their first ever race. We’ve plenty more to come especially this coming weekend when Seanin Gilmore appears at the 2018 Fyn ITU Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships in Denmark and then several of the squad head to Scotland for the Age Group Sprint Distance European Championships in Glasgow.’

Do3 is mentored and managed by Dave Knight, one of the UK’s leading triathlon coaches and has been recognised as Coach of the Year at Stratford District Council Sport Awards. The squad is made up of over 200 Midlands-based athletes; from triathlon enthusiasts and age group competitors to professional athletes.
